Professional Vitae
Dr Maria Papatzanaki earned her medical degree with honors at Medical School University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
She completed her medical residency in Ophthalmology at the University Eye Clinic in Athens.
In 1983, Dr Maria Papatzanaki became board certified in ophthalmology and began serving at the National Health Care System in the island of Crete.
In 1989, she started her post- graduated studies at the University of Heraklion Crete, Greece. Her studies focused on the research of the emerging excimer laser and its potential applications on refractive surgery for the correction of myopia. She was among the first researchers to report the early results of excimer laser application on the cornea.
Professional Interests
Primary target is to provide high standard services for a wide spectrum of eye diseases. Thanks to the latest technology equipment and the experience (since 1993), she can provide high quality service, diagnosis and effective treatment.
She is presently in private practice full time, where she practices in general ophthalmology with special interests in Glaucoma management with both medical and laser treatment, medical management of retinal diseases such as macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease, including intravitreal injections of medications.
Her surgical interests include cataract surgery, premium IOL’s, refractive surgery and Glaucoma surgery
Her significant expertise with cataracts allows her to perform both routine cataract surgery, as well as more complex cataract removals for patients with co-occurring eye conditions.
Dr Maria Papatzanaki is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, European Ophthalmology Society, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
